Chairman of Kuwait Red Crescent Society, Dr. Hilal Al-Sayer praised the efforts of the volunteers in efforts to meet the humanitarian challenges and perseverance they showed in the most difficult times to fight the Corona virus and at all levels to serve their country.
In the occasion of the International Day of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, Al- Sayer said, "we shared the international human family, celebrations of this occasion for the well-being of everyone everywhere".
He added that "it was an opportunity to highlight the role of KRCS's humanitarian role and its decent status in society and the international humanitarian movement through their relentless endeavor to give hand to people in need, at health, social, relief or development levels.
He pointed out that their efforts did not stop to handle the repercussions of Coronavirus outbreak. He commended the role of volunteers in facing risks and their persistent day and night work and incomparable dedication.
He stated that in light of the Coronavirus crisis, many of KRCS's volunteers were engaged in awareness campaigns as well as meals and food baskets delivery and commuting passengers from the airport to their homes. This reflected the importance of cooperation and solidarity in fighting the epidemic.
Al-Sayer said that KRCS assisted in providing health quarantines, hygiene kits, food and sleeping needs, and medical devices to the Ministry of Health, due to its belief in its role in fighting the coronavirus outbreak.
He affirmed keenness to support the efforts of the Ministry of Education, Kuwait University and the Public Authority for Applied Education and Training by providing food baskets for their staffs.
He stated that KRCS, in coordination with the Ministry of the Interior, delivered food baskets and daily meals in Coronavirus-related blocked areas of Mahboula and Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh.
He pointed out that KRCS is keen to deliver food aid to five thousand families in need registered with KRCS, and that efforts continued to support needy families throughout the holy month of Ramadan.
He explained that KRCS fulfilled its international relief commitments, that included supporting several national societies in organizing Ramadan breakfasts and delivery of food baskets to people in need, such as Syrian refugees, Tajikistan, Mauritania, Somalia, Djibouti, Kenya, Benin, Mozambique, Malawi, Comoros, Central Africa, Chad, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Sri Lanka, Jordan (Club For Deaf) and UNRWA.
It is noteworthy that the world commemorates the International Day of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies on May 8, every year, by organizing various events and activities.
