The Ambassador of the Republic of Sri Lanka to the country, Lakshitha Ratnayake, expressed his country's appreciation for the role of the State of Kuwait represented by the Kuwait Red Crescent Society in humanitarian and relief support for those affected by the flood disaster caused by heavy rains and cyclones, which led to severe losses affecting more than 600,000 families, in addition to casualties and missing persons. Ambassador Ratnayake said after his meeting with the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Kuwait Red Crescent Society, Khaled Al-Maghames, at the Society's headquarters, that what happened is a catastrophe that left severe impacts on the lives of many affected people. He stressed his confidence that Kuwaiti humanitarian efforts will have a significant impact in alleviating the suffering of the afflicted families, especially under the current circumstances in his country. For his part, Al-Maghames affirmed the Society's commitment to continue its humanitarian role and extend a helping hand to the needy and afflicted around the world, explaining that this meeting addressed ways of humanitarian cooperation and reviewing the urgent needs that arose in Sri Lanka. He indicated that the Society will study the proposed requirements according to relief intervention priorities, affirming that the "Kuwait Red Crescent" places emergency humanitarian cases within its concerns, embodying Kuwait's pioneering role in charitable work.
