The Chairman of the Kuwait Red Crescent Society, Khaled Al-Mughames, affirmed that Kuwait has firmly established its leading position regionally and internationally in supporting humanitarian work and promoting respect for international humanitarian law, stemming from its unwavering approach to protecting human dignity and alleviating the suffering of those affected around the world.

Al-Mughames made these remarks following the opening of a workshop organized by the Society under the title: "The Four Geneva Conventions and Humanitarian Work... Towards Enhancing the Protection of Humans and Humanitarian Workers in the Context of Armed Conflicts," held in the presence of a number of official bodies engaged in and sponsoring humanitarian work.

Al-Mughames stated that the workshop aims to highlight the importance of the Geneva Conventions as the primary legal reference for protecting victims of armed conflicts, and to shed light on the protection of civilians, humanitarian workers, and medical personnel, in addition to examining the challenges of implementing their provisions in contemporary conflicts.

He added that Kuwait plays a pivotal role in supporting and disseminating the principles of international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions and their Additional Protocols, noting the Kuwait Red Crescent's commitment to promoting a culture of international humanitarian law through training and awareness programs, strengthening cooperation with national and international institutions, and building capacities and raising awareness of its provisions.

Al-Mughames expressed his hope that the workshop would yield practical recommendations that enhance the dissemination of international humanitarian law, develop mechanisms of cooperation among relevant parties, and consolidate a culture of respect for the Geneva Conventions — in a manner that supports the protection of human beings, preserves their dignity, and promotes security, peace, and stability.
