King Hussein Cancer Foundation: Kuwait Is a Leading Model in Humanitarian Work

The Director General of the King Hussein Cancer Foundation in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, Nesreen Qatamesh, affirmed today that Kuwait is a leading model in humanitarian work and in supporting patients and those in need, praising the existing partnership with the Kuwait Red Crescent Society in providing healthcare to cancer patients, particularly refugees and displaced persons.

Qatamesh stated following her meeting with the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Kuwait Red Crescent Society, Khaled Al-Mughamis, that Kuwait — its leadership, government, and people — embodies the values of solidarity and human compassion through its continuous initiatives to support the most vulnerable groups and enhance patients' access to treatment.

She explained that approximately 120 patients per month — Syrian refugees and patients from the Gaza Strip and Palestine — are awaiting treatment, which requires strengthening support for the Goodwill and Zakat Fund and developing medical devices and equipment to ensure the continuity of treatment services.

She noted that the Foundation currently has more than 35,000 patients receiving treatment, with Arab patients accounting for approximately 30 percent of them, including patients from Gaza, Syria, Yemen, and Sudan. She indicated that the Foundation is working to develop its medical system and expand its humanitarian partnerships to provide advanced healthcare.

Qatamesh affirmed that the support of the Kuwait Red Crescent Society reflects Kuwait's steadfast commitment to standing by patients and alleviating their suffering, and embodies the importance of integrating humanitarian and medical efforts in granting patients greater opportunities for treatment and recovery.

For his part, Al-Mughamis affirmed that the Society places support for health and humanitarian initiatives at the forefront of its priorities — particularly programs aimed at improving healthcare for refugees, displaced persons, and cancer patients — stemming from the Society's belief that medical treatment is a fundamental human right for every person in need.

Al-Mughamis added that the Society is committed to continuing its cooperation with the King Hussein Cancer Foundation to enhance patients' access to the necessary medical care, especially refugees and displaced persons who face exceptional health and humanitarian circumstances.
